Over the break, I bought an ipod and am enjoying it tremendously. The idea of being able to have access to my entire musical library where and when ever I want is opening up avenues of the emotional spectrum that I never thought possible. Listening to Miles Davis while walking to my car after class made everything seem more vibrant and alive. Somewhat cheesy, but I felt like I was privy to a secret that no one else was in on.
However, I do plan on using it scholastically as well. The problems that I have with Spanish, will be confronted this summer as I record vocabulary and concepts listen to them while driving, on the golf course, and the water. It is something that I never would have considered if I did not take this course. As I have noted before the benefits of ENG 307 are not only helping me learn how to be a better teacher, but a better student as well.

Aren't ipods amazing? I've had mine for a while, and I use mine for both music and educaitonal purposes. My friend gave me this CD, which I imported on my ipod, called The Poe Project. Have you heard of them? They apply music to Poe's poetry, which is so awesome. I plan to use it in the classroom, so I'm trying to build my ipod for multiple uses. Also, like you said, it is so cool to be able to listen to music anywhere. My friends hook their ipods into their cars so they can hear their music on road trips or long drives. I'm sure in a few years that ipods will expand to be able to do so many different things than we know now.
Jo, I recommend you download some of the educational podcasts that are not ubiquitous.
See if you can locate some good sites for that.
I got one for Christmas and I haven't been downloading the books on tape I listen to. I've got to get back to that at sites like this: http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/
NOW ubiquitous. Sorry!!
I think that a few new models of VW cars come with an optional iPod hookup... or maybe just mp3... either way, the cars don't simply have a "radio" (it seems so old-fashioned to listen to the "radio")
Anyway, your excitement is pretty infectious- I've wanted an iPod for a while, but I'm a bit hestitant right now because my phone has most of the same capabilities.
Enjoy!
Megan you make a great point. All of these "functions" are being collapsed into different devices now. Do you think the ipod as it's currently manufactured will be obsolete within 2 years?
Now having said that, I still use my cassette tape player! Duh!! Cassettes. What are those!
Hi Jo, I'm browsing for new content.
